The Mission: Impossible franchise has been thrilling and thrilling audiences since the first installment released in 1996. From a mechanical cannonball train to one of the most impressive skyscraper scenes in movie history, the Mission: Impossible movies feature some of the most daring and dangerous stunts ever seen. And while most are pulled off with the help of wires and computer-generated effects, there are still a fair few stunts that required the team to take some serious risks. 1.The Burj Khalifa Skydive

The Burj Khalifa is an enormous skyscraper in Dubai and the scene for one of the most impressive stunts in Mission: Impossible– Ghost Protocol. Tom Cruise was strapped into safety harnesses and rappelled from the rooftop of the building before jumping from the ledge of the 130th floor and parachuting down. The stunt itself was accomplished without special effects.

2.The Hang Gliding Stunt

Tom Cruise wasn’t content to stick to the relative safety of the ground in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. He wanted to do some of the stunts himself– including a daring hang gliding stunt. He was harnessed to a professional hang glider and flew over Lake Garda in Italy for a scene lasting about 3 minutes.

3.The Helicopter Stunt

Cruise again defied gravity and filmed an incredible helicopter stunt in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. In this one, he was suspended from a rope ladder and hung from a helicopter as it soared over Israel and through the Arava Valley.

Tom Cruise pulled off another stunning feat in Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol. In this one, Cruise had to climb the outside of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai. Cruise was suspended more than 700 feet in the air and completed the stunt without any safety wires.

5.The A380 Hangar Fly-Through

Another danger stunt that Tom Cruise pulled off in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was the A380 hangar fly-through. Cruise had to navigate a wind tunnel while holding onto scaffolding and making his way through a hangar famously used for assembling the A380 jumbo jets.

6.The Motorcycle Chase

Tom Cruise took viewers for a breathless ride in Mission: Impossible- Fallout. Cruise mounted up on a Ducati 959 Panigale and raced through the narrow and ancient streets of Paris, weaving in and out of traffic, squeezing through tight alleyways and flipping from one side of the street to the other.

7.The Train Sequence

Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol featured an epic train sequence that was actually done on a real train. Cruise and his team had to navigate their way between two speeding trains on parallel tracks. The stunts were filmed at a decommissioned train station in Los Angeles

Another stunt that had to be filmed on location was the thrilling Vienna Chase scene in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Cruise had to navigate the narrow and intricate streets of Vienna while in hot pursuit of a villain.

Tom Cruise performed another incredible stunt while strapped to a motorbike in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. He had to launch over a rooftop and land on an inclined ramp on the other side.

The most dangerous stunt of all in the Mission: Impossible franchise has to be the bell tower free-fall in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Cruise had to hang from a rope coiled around a bell tower and then release himself to fall hundreds of feet to the ground. The stunt was accomplished without the use of any wires or special effects.

From the Burj Khalifa skydive to the bell tower freefall, Tom Cruise has pulled off some incredible and dangerous stunts while filming the Mission: Impossible movies. While some of these stunts had to be done with the help of wires and computer effects, there are plenty of moments where Cruise took some serious risks.
