Early Life and Career

Jennifer Shrader Lawrence was born on August 15, 1990 in Louisville, Kentucky to Karen and Gary Lawrence. She went to Kammerer Middle School and completed her high school education from LA’s Arts School in New York. Much of her acting skills were honed from the summer acting programs she attended in New York and Los Angeles.

Before her career in the entertainment industry, Lawrence worked in various jobs including as an assistant nurse, waitress and a lifeguard. She was finally spotted in 2006 by talent scout and acting coach, Garret Dowd. Lawrence was cast in the television series, The Bill Engvall Show. She finally moved to Los Angeles in 2007 and secured film roles in Garden Party and The Burning Plain.

Breakthrough with ‘Winter’s Bone’

Lawrence gained positive acclaim for her role in the 2010 low-budget indie winter’s Bone, playing a teenage girl finding her missing father. Her performance earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Soon afterwards, she portrayed the powerful Jennifer Dawson in X-Men as the shapeshifting mutant, Mystique.

The Hunger Games and Subsequent Success

In 2012, Lawrence rose to fame as the heroine in the science fiction thriller, The Hunger Games. The role established her as one of the prominent leading ladies. The movie earned three sequels and her performance as the revolutionary heroine, Katniss Everdeen, earned further appreciation.

It was the same year that Lawrence starred in the romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook, which won her her first Academy Award. She also bagged four Golden Globe Awards and one BAFTA for her performance.

The Academy’s Best Actress

From then on, she effectively and impressively performed in a variety of roles in numerous films including American Hustle, Joy, and Passengers.

In 2019, Lawrence won her second Academy Award for her remarkable performance in The Silver Linings Playbook and she became the youngest actress to do so. She was also nominated for her roles in American Hustle and Winter’s Bone.

Humanitarian Work and Personal Life

Alongside her acting roles, Lawrence is also an active campaigner for humanitarian services and speaks publicly on the need for greater action towards refugee crises. Since the proclamation of the Syrian war in 2011, Lawrence has actively involved herself in the refugee crisis. She addressed the UN General Assembly on the urgent need to find homes for refugees and in 2017, she was honoured with the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award for her service.

Lawrence was in a long-term relationship with film director Darren Aronofsky; however, the couple split in 2018. At present, she is rumoured to be dating New York art gallerist Cooke Maroney.
