The Marvel Cinematic Universe is home to a steadily growing roster of superheroes, while the Avengers have remained a constant powerhouse fixture in the franchise since the very beginning. As more and more films enter the expansive MCU landscape, fans increasingly speculate on who may join the Avengers at some point in the future. Here, we analyze the rumours, discoveries, and clues to highlight the various MCU Heroes we think may one day join the esteemed group of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Who Are the Avengers?
Before we look into who could join the Avengers, it’s important to familiarize ourselves with the team and what sets them apart from other superpowered individuals in the MCU. Since 2008, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and more have been known as the Avengers. This “supergroup” was brought together by S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, the individual responsible for exposing the world (and the MCU) to a robotic force called Chitauri and the nefarious Loki.
The Avengers have since evolved to include Scarlet Witch, Vision, War Machine, Falcon, and others as they continue to go up against insurmountable odds and evil forces.
The Unlikely Candidates – MCU Heroes We Think May Be Avengers
As the Avengers continue to build and revolutionize themselves, there are a handful of known names that stand out as potential contenders for future inclusion.
- Blade – Marvel’s vampire hunter
Blade, a half-vampire, half-human vampire hunter, recently made his return to the MCU as one of the heroes from Marvel’s Phase 4. Played by Mahershala Ali, Blade’s somewhat mysterious connection to the Avengers could make him a very important asset in the long run. After all, Blade has already been fighting supernatural enemies for centuries, and the Avengers may need all the help they can get.
- Ms. Marvel – Marvel’s teenage hero
Ms. Marvel, a teenage shapeshifter and Avenger in the comics, was recently announced as a hero headed to the MCU in the near future. While there’s no telling when her any of her appearances may be, there’s no doubt that Ms. Marvel may eventually join the Avengers and help them in their fight against evil.
- She-Hulk – Marvel’s green Amazonian
The cousin of Bruce Banner’s Hulk, Jennifer Walters is set to join the MCU after her depiction in the upcoming Disney+ series. She-Hulk’s already been part of the Avengers in the comics, so it’s only logical to assume we may be seeing her join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the near future.
- The Falcon – Marvel’s wing-clad hero
There’s no doubt Falcon has become an Avenger in recent films. The wing-clad hero has been a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his appearance in The Winter Soldier and it seems only logical he’ll eventually join the team officially. This may be especially true in the wake of Captain America’s decision to leave the team in Endgame and pass on his shield to Falcon.
- Doctor Stephen Strange – Marvel’s resident sorcerer
doctor strange is a British neurosurgeon-turned-Sorcerer Supreme and a potential candidate for the Avengers. Despite not being an Avenger in the comics, the character has an important role in the MCU and is usually on the lookout for threats around the Earth that require a more supernatural approach. With the power beyond imagination and time-manipulating abilities at his disposal, Doctor Strange may just join his powerful peer’s in the near future.
- Ms. Marvel – Marvel’s teenage hero
Ms. Marvel, a teenage shapeshifter and Avenger in the comics, was recently announced as a hero headed to the MCU in the near future. While there’s no telling when her appearance may be, we can speculate that Ms. Marvel may eventually join the Avengers and help them in their fight against evil.
- Ironheart – Marvel’s tech genius
Ironheart, aka Riri Williams, may be the MCU’s next great inventor and the next to join the Avengers. Williams is a 15-year-old creativity and genius who created her own powered armour tech and earned the admiration of Tony Stark in the comics. With her brilliant mind and powerful armour, there’s no doubt Ironheart may join the Avengers in time.
- Captain Marvel – Marvel’s most powerful superhero
Finally, there is no denying Captain Marvel’s status as the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first female superhero to receive her own solo movie, Captain Marvel is already a major player in the MCU and her position in the Avengers would be a logical and welcome addition to the team.
This is just a handful of the MCU Heroes we think may be Avengers in the near future. With so many candidates, rumours, and clues, the Avengers’ roster can change at any moment and when they do, they could become stronger than ever. Whether it’s Blade, Ms. Marvel, or Captain Marvel, the fans will have to wait and see who will be officially inducted into Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
