Game of Thrones: Characters Who Really Didn’t Have to Die

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular fantasy television series to date. Everyone has their favorite characters and those that they most despised. And it was even worse when some of those favorite characters got killed off! There were a number of deaths across the series of Game of Thrones that shocked us and left us in disbelief, but there are some deaths that we felt should have been avoided. Read on to find out which characters we think didn’t have to die bad ends in the final GoT season.

Ned Stark

The very first death of the show marked a turning point in the development of Game of Thrones. Ned Stark was taken away by the Lannisters in Season 1 and his death came as a complete shock to the audience. Ned Stark was honorable, kind, and a devoted father who made sure to protect his family no matter the cost. His death sent the message that no character was safe, and the world of Westeros had suddenly become a much colder place for everyone.

Oberyn Martell

Oberyn Martell brought a little bit of joy and humor into the show, but that joy was short-lived since Oberyn was eventually killed in a cruel way. He was betrayed by his hatred and eagerness to seek revenge and it cost him his life. Oberyn wanted to bring justice for the crime inflicted on his family, but he was convinced to fight for Tyrion Lannister. In the end, he failed to avenge his sister and he was killed with a forceful woble of The Mountain’s hands.

Hodor

Hodor was the epitome of a gentle giant, and he was a loyal supporter of the Stark family. He was kind and had a natural sense of good heartedness that made it difficult to watch him die in such a cruel manner. Visions of Hodor being held back by Bran Stark while stabling a zombie was an all-too-common sight. This would have been a very hard death to prevent, as it was all part of the prophecy, but we can’t blame fans for wishing that Hodor didn’t have to go.

Robb Stark

Robb Stark was the ousted Lord of Winterfell who wanted to lead the North in its fight against the Lannisters and reclaim his house’s rightful place at the top of Westeros. His death was especially heartbreaking because it was a slow and drawn out torture by the hands of Walder Frey, orchestrated by the Lannisters. It was a sad moment for the Stark family and for all of the North.

Talisa Stark

Talisa Stark was the kind-hearted and compassionate wife of Robb Stark who wanted to save as many of the wounded at the red wedding as possible. Her death was both shocking and tragic, as she was taken before her time and murdered in cold blood in front of her husband, an act that only made things worse for Robb. It was her death that finally made the full implications of the Red Wedding hit him, and no one will ever forget her death scene.

Shireen Baratheon

Shireen Baratheon was a sweet, innocent child who was caught up in the middle of a political game that she didn’t quite understand. Her death was particularly heartbreaking as her father, Stannis, sacrificed her to a fire in an attempt to summon an extra, magical power. It was a devastating moment for the audience, since we had all grown fond of the young girl and she was the last representative of Stannis’s family.

Jon Snow

Jon Snow was the last character to die on the show and everyone was hoping that he wouldn’t follow in the footsteps of the other characters mentioned in this article. His death came as a complete shock, and it was particularly hard to see such a loyal and honorable character die. Of course, his death eventually turned out to be a fraud but that didn’t help soften the blow.

Game of Thrones was filled with violent deaths that shocked the audience and made them weep, but some of the characters mentioned here had death scenes that could have been avoided. It’s difficult to fathom the pain and suffering some of the characters went through and it’s sad to think that they didn’t get the happy ending they deserved.
